Rock Glen Hotel

The Rock Glen is a traditional country hotel originally built as a hunting lodge in 1815 for Clifden Castle. It is situated in Ardbear Bay on Ireland's west coast, just south of Clifden, with views of the Twelve Bens Mountains. The 27 guestrooms are decorated in a country house style with warm cream and yellow tones. All include televisions, direct dial phones, hair dryers, and trouser presses.
In fine weather guests can sit out in the garden taking in views of the Twelve Bens mountain range over Ardbear Bay, or enjoy a game of croquet on the lawn. Guests can plan sightseeing itineraries and keep in touch with friends and family using complimentary Internet access and there are plenty of places for a quiet spot of reading. As the sun goes down an evening of musical entertainment and Irish coffees can be enjoyed in the lounge bar with the resident pianist. Spontaneous sing songs occur regularly and guests are invited to join in. The hotel restaurant serves a menu of modern Irish dishes such as Braised Lamb Shanks in Guinness. Guests can enjoy a game of billiards on the full size snooker table or play tennis on the all weather court. There is also a play area for children and a putting green, and clay pigeon shooting can be arranged on request. For golf enthusiasts the Connemara Golf Club, with its 18 hole championship course, is 19 kilometres from the hotel. The area offers opportunities for hill walking and river, lake and sea fishing. Pony trekking can also be arranged at an equestrian centre one kilometre from the hotel. Galway airport is 50 miles away with a driving time of 60 minutes.
